May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

Located just outside the small mountain town of Banner Elk, NC, the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is one of the region’s most important wildlife resources. The facility is run by the Lees-McRae College and provides care for injured wildlife. The center also works to educate the public about these animals.

The center admits more than 1,500 injured wildlife each year. These animals are treated, assessed, and released back into the wild. The center is supported financially by a nonprofit organization called Friends of Wildlife. The students at the Lees-McRae campus also play an important role in the center’s work.
